I just watched Moonrise Kingdom again, and this second time really hit hard. The first time, I took my 15-yo brother. It was his first time watching an ‘artsy’ film. He thought it felt lonely; I thought it was cute. We walked out of the theater a bit lethargic and drowsy.
The second time watching this, it clicked. I felt the full-on impact of loneliness, love and all of the sentiments a budding young girl/boy felt at the age of 13. I noticed every element of each carefully curated scene, appreciating and taking in each object and its purposeful placement. I, for one reason or another, identified very well with Sam to a point that I’m pretty sure I’m going to be him for Halloween. I felt emotions – something I rarely feel as I am a robot and have a metallic heart.

As a tribute to this beautiful film, here’s a wallpaper featuring my favorite quote. Setting: on the beach, after Suzy tells Sam she had always wanted to be an orphan.
